Wednesday morning, November 2nd, the conference Active Kids Do Better (AKDB) – a part of the events set up by the International Physical Activity Prescription Organization (IPAPO) - was hold in Doan Thi Diem primary school (My Dinh II urban area, South Tu Liem district, Hanoi.
Participating in the conference, there were Pediatric PhD. Gisela Nyberg, researcher from Public Health department, Karolinska institute, Sweden; Dr. Wade Brackenbury, director of American Chiropractic Clinic; and Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, principal, along other teachers, class representatives of 2nd , 3rd and 5th grade, and PDA representatives of Doan Thi Diem primary school.
The conference aimed to decrease the physical inactivity of students by improving the quality of physical education classes and promoting physical activities (PA) in break time, developing a healthy life style and putting common school health problems under control. It also aimed to raise the awareness of teachers, parents and children about the importance of physical activity in early years of life. This is the key objective throughout the AKDB program in the 2016-2017 period of the school board.
During her presentation, PhD. Gisela Nyberg spoke about the vital role of PA to the development of children. She shared her experience in putting PA prescription projects in action in order to improve the health of primary school children.

Regarding to school health problems relating to joints and spinal column, Dr. Wade Brackenbury gave a speech about how to recognize and avoid these issues. Through his attractive way of speaking and the abundance of more than 20 years of experience in treating orthopedic diseases, his presentation drew a lot of attention from parents and pupils.
Alongside the conference, there were also a session of podiatric examination for screening “Flat feet” syndrome and an exhibition called “Physical activity and the Development of children”.
At the summary, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong – school principal – once again emphasized the important role of PA in education and promised together with other organizations to make a school environment which promotes both physical and educational activities, helping students achieve a healthy lifestyle. |
