Physical Activity Prescription Organization

   The significant role of physical activity in prevention and treatment has been well-documented for long. In Sweden and several countries, “Physical activity” is even considered as a medicine and prescribed like any other drugs. In Vietnam, along with holding seminars on health and training, in 2012, the Swedish evidence-based book “Physical Activity in the Prevention and Treatment of Disease” (FYSS) was translated in to Vietnamese. In order to promote the benefits of physical activity on prescription in the domestic medicine community and improve the quality of FYSS Vietnamese version (2010), FSH group has launched a project of reviewing the book and its Vietnamese translation.

   The project staff included 11 FSH members include sophomore and senior students in Hanoi Medical University, all which belong to DTHIM. They were divided into 5 groups. Project advisors were Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong, M.D., Ph.D. and Trinh Xuan Thang, M.D.. The meeting was held every two week so the working groups had enough time for preparation.

  The activity had lasted for 5 months, from July to December 2014, with 7 official meetings and reviewed roughly 100 pages in each session in the total 655 pages of the Vietnamese version. As it started running, the review activity faced some difficulties including restricted fund and many in-depth terminology. After several meetings to draw experience, the activity could be operated more effectively and more efficiently.

   The completion of this non-profit review activity in a short time and its positive results has indicated that the training for young generation of FSH group has bear fruit. Through this project, the group members have gained helpful knowledge of physical activity prescription, translation skills as well as activity operational abilities. The Swedish side also had positive comments on the project and expressed their intention to let FSH group be in charge of translating of the next FYSS edition. This is a remarkable achievement of the group in general and members of the sixth generation in particular.
