In 2010, WHO published "Global Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health" in order to provide the basic needed knowledge about physical activity for the prevention of NCDs. |
|
Physical inactivity is now identified as the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality with more than 3 million people died (according to a WHO report in 2009 (1)). Physical inactivity levels are rising in many countries and are proved to link with the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the general health of the population worldwide. |

The focus of the Global recommendations on physical activity for health is the primary prevention of NCDs through physical activity at the population level, and the primary target audience for these recommendations are policy-makers at the national level. The recommendation was given for 3 groups: 5–17 years old; 18–64 years old; and 65 years old and above, and do not include the advice for the group under 5. A section focusing on each age group includes the following: a narrative summary of scientific evidence; the current physical activity recommendations; and the interpretation and justification for the recommendations made. |
