In recent decades, lifestyle has been considered as a very important factor for life quality. Many research has proved the role of lifestyle, more specifically physical activity, in the population health. In order to make a good reference for Americans policymakers, health professionals and lay people, the The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans was created in 2008. It focuses on information and guidance on the types and amounts of physical activity that needed to have health benefits.

However, children younger than 6 should be physically active in ways appropriate for their age and stage of development.
